Podcast: Play in new window
Have you ever felt like your very best efforts in life get derailed each and every time? Have you ever wondered why the harder you try, the faster life seems to throw curves your way? Maybe have been trying so hard for so long and you’ve simply worn yourself out. Exhausted and discouraged, you want to quit because try as you might to control the outcomes in your life, things just don’t want to go the way you’ve planned.
Four times I’ve traveled to San Francisco to bike the Golden Gate Bridge, but I’ve only actually completed the ride twice. Circumstances beyond my control got in the way for half of my attempts.
There are some things you just can’t control, but there are a few crucial things that are totally within your control. Your use of them can greatly effect your life story.
In today’s podcast you will discover simple yet impactful ways in which you can take control of your life so that you can walk forward confidently.
While you can’t control everything that happens to you, you CAN control how you respond to everything that happens to you. You will gain more ground by focusing your attentions on how you receive, process, and react to each and everything that comes your way.
At the end of the day, you do the best you can and then life is gonna do what life is gonna do. Many of us get so discouraged by the typical ebbs and flows of life and our lack of control in them that we simply quit trying all together. Today I want to remind you that your effort does matter and that it can change the way you see your life unfold before you.

[…] #052 – Lessons from Biking the Bridge – Part 1 […]
I haven’t listened to your new post yet but I’m rejoicing that there is a new post. I didn’t want to be impatient but so many times I wanted to tell you that I MISS YOU! I hear Gos speaking to me directly from your postings.
Thanks for the encouragement Melanie!
Thank you so much Chrystal. That was such a timely word and encouragement at a time in my life where I am really trying to review it and speak positive. Have read 1000 gifts and loved it and have a book which I started back in 2011 and have reached many thousands of thank you but this has really made me think of being grateful in a much deeper but simpler way. I am so happy to be able to receive these posts. Thank you again.
Nice catch, thank you for sharing this.
As usual, very real and to the point.
This reminded me of something I read about the time of your 1st ride. There’s an “non-canonical” saying of Jesus that starts as, “The world is a bridge…” I couldn’t remember the rest and I almost opened a Pandora’s box trying to find it. Then I remembered why I forgot it. It sounded like the voice of Eastern religions so I put it out of my mind. Today I was reminded in my search that Jesus is officially quoted as saying that “the field is the world” while breaking things down to us personally. If He were standing here, I think He may have said it your way, that “life is a bridge…” As for the rest, your idea of bringing out “celebration” really cued me in on how best to fill in some of those blanks I’m still finding in my home, and not just in my studies. Thanks again. And welcome back. (-:
Chrystal – thank you so much, your postings are so simple and effortless, like learning how to ride a bike. I look forward to receiving your posts in my email. They are always that little push that I need
Yay…she’s back!! I can’t begin to tell you how excited I was after seeing an extra podcast notice yesterday.
As always, thank you for your words of wisdom. Your words are another nugget that is tying into the truth of freedom that God is opening my eyes to. I listen to your dad daily, am almost finished with a Breathe bible study at my church and I ALWAYS enjoy your feeds. The takeaways that I gather from each of you are invaluable. Thank you for the time, fun, and insight that you pour into the podcasts.
Happy Belated Birthday!! I hope it was your best one yet!!
Chrystal, these are lessons that I have been learning too. Thanks for the encouragement to press on. I love when God uses so many ways to confirm a message. Thanks for being one of them!!
Chrystal, thank you so much for your very timely podcast! I had always been a naturally thankful person and 1000 gifts was one of my favourite books, but things have slipped over the last year of busyness and I know I need to get back to speaking my thanks out loud (or on paper :)). The year has felt more difficult than another others and I am sure this is partly due to my lake of thankfulness. And so here goes… I am so grateful for a very supportive family, for four cute little kids (who are mostly taller than me) who love the Lord and for the piles of washing on my lounge waiting to be folded that represent them.
Thank you so very much for your words!!! They are so meaningful at this time in my life!!! Thank you!!! I am a runner and running has been the simple thing. A few weeks ago God blessed me with a bicycle. I can tell you that riding my bike has bring so much joy to my life. I am going through a difficult time right now but somehow riding the bike has save me from going crazy. I am complete convince that God blessed me with that bike at the right time. He knew I was going to need it for crossing this part of the bridge!!!
Thanks a lot!
It is great to be encouraged to keep on going through different situations, specially when they are not what you expected.
