Podcast: Play in new window
As I read through the Bible this year, more than a few times, I’ve bumped into a passage of scripture that has surprised me, given me cause for pause, or flat-out left me speechless.
Right smack in the middle of the Old Testament and all of the information given to Moses about the design of the temple and the procedures for the sacrifices, God says He is interested in what people wear.
It’s true.
Wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t read it myself.
God is interested in beautiful clothes.
This is mind-blowing for me – a girl who cares nothing about clothes.
As a stay-at-home mom who would rather wear yoga pants and a t-shirt on any given day of the week, clothes have taken a back seat in my personal hierarchy of important matters.
In my opinion, clothes are for function.
And while I would love to just walk around on this earth butt-naked, I have to get dressed. Eve made sure of that.
And get dressed I do, but I don’t necessarily make it my practice to go beyond the idea of “function” and “necessity”.
But after reading the scriptures, I’m challenged.
I’m challenged to care.
I’m challenged so much so that I’m starting an Instagram Challenge this Wednesday to help you and me do a better job with paying attention to who looks back at us in the mirror.
While I don’t think I will ever be the girl who loves to shop, I do think there is something Biblically important about God’s children reflecting God’s glory and His beauty with the abilities, resources, and time that we have.
Today I have both podcasted and written about this topic. You can read about it by going over to my post on FortheFamily.org or you can hit listen to my talk about the topic by pressing play on the blog or by catching the podcast on iTunes, or Stitcher.

I came across this while on pinterest this am. What a sweet no calorie treat from the lover of my soul. I m a girl who enjoys me some make up and discount/sale/consignment /my-sister-gave it back to me because we both keep running up and down the weight scale clothing. Thank you sweet sister in Christian. I look forward to more post.
Like your podcasts a lot!!!
I think God cares about all the details in my life, even clothes!!! He wants and like to see me beautiful, the clothes reflect what is on the inside.
Yes! Thank you!
Showered. Got dressed. put my hair in hot rollers. I felt like a teenage girl primping in the mirror.., thinking “this is SO not necessary!” It’s not like I’m going to work or church. But then it hit me, like, duh, yeah, I kinda am. Motherhood is a ministry AND work! Albeit not a fancy gig most days. I actually think a uniform of a nurse or construction worker would be more suitable. Feeling good about our appearance shouldn’t be a HUGE focus I don’t think. Getting dressed mentally, physically and most importantly, spiritually for our divine daily duties should be a priority. And it hasn’t been for me ever. I like to look nice, but find myself “saving” cute clothes until I’m going to be in public longer than an hour
I really enjoyed this podcast. I love how you brought out how detailed God was with the priest’s outfits. I am a girl who loves cuddle duds and t-shirts. I wear my cuddle duds all the time. I even wore them in one of my posted outfits, however, I did wear a super cute sweater with them.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about this, because it’s something that is good to do. Tomorrow will be the kicker, because I am bible study, a VBS work day and cleaning the church in the same trip. Will see how that outfit goes.
I found you from Proverbs 31 Ministers you did Real Love Bleeds what you said was interesting so I went ober to upur blog and here I am.
I LOVE this podcast. I am a mom of 5 ages 22-16 now but I still find myself getting caught in the jeans and t-shirt cycle. I am not a yoga pants person. I have lost alot of weight and have no backside anymore…lol….However in my professional life, I am a manager in healthcare and have to dress accordingly. I can put things together but I struggle with the hair and make up during the work week. I have invested in nice clothes but the effort of a “grown up” morning routine has me all jacked up. I can schedule my life but can’t establish a routine for myself. My children all have routines and I cannot get it together. I am dragging myself out the door looking forward to getting off and putting on my sweats or jeans at the end of the day…..Thanks for your transparency
